KAWIT, Cavite (PIA) — Highlighting the importance of a coordinated flood mitigation program between the national and local governments, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) launched the Cavite leg of the Flood Mitigation Summit 2026 to help create policies that will solve flooding in the province’s first district. 

Last September 14, officials from the local government units and national government agencies including the DPWH, Office of Civil Defense, and the Department of Labor and Employment, joined in the discussions on national government interventions to address the flooding concerns. 

The Summit focused on the risks and solutions in addressing the perennial flood problems in the province, as well as projects slated for low-lying areas. The DPWH also rehashed the Oplan Kontra Baha (OKB) Framework, waterway connectivity, and other flood mitigation initiatives. 

Representative Jolo Revilla noted the importance of the Summit in identifying priority interventions in the province. 

“Iisa ang ating layunin: ang magkaroon ng mas malinaw at koordinatong hakbang laban sa pagbaha–mula sa dredging at clearing ng mga waterways, deployment ng equipment, pagpapalakas ng drainage at flood control infrastructure, hanggang sa pagtukoy sa priority intervention areas sa Cavite.”

In a statement, the DPWH CALABARZON emphasized the importance of coordinated policies to address flooding in the region. 

“Patuloy na tinututukan ng DPWH ang mga suliranin sa pagbaha sa pamamagitan ng pinaigting na koordinasyon at pagpapatupad ng mga nararapat na hakbang, bilang tugon sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, tungo sa mas ligtas at matatag na komunidad.” 

To recall, Secretary Vince Dizon led a series of inspections of government infrastructure in Cavite Province, including roadwork projects in the province’s first district. (PB-PIA CALABARZON, with reports from DPWH Region IV-A)
