Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo started as Captain Municipal of Kawit on January 1, 1836 and since then was
known as Capitan Emilio Aguinaldo to the Public and Capitan Miong to close friends. He was head of the Magdalo chapter of the Katipunan when hostilities broke out against Spain. By a twist of fate, he became President of the Republic of the Philippines and led the Filipinos in the fight against the Americans who replaced the Spaniards as Colonizers. He was captured in Palanan, accepted American rule and led a civilian life.
