The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Calabarzon through its Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) officially launched the Gawad Taga-Ilog: Search for the Most Improved Estero/Waterway in the province of Cavite on Friday, July 11.
The Gawad Taga-Ilog is a search for the most improved estero or waterway, aiming to enhance water quality and preserve the cleanliness of rivers by pushing for environmental education, encouraging active community involvement, promoting sustainable water management practices, and inspiring lasting shifts in public attitude toward environmental stewardship.
DENR Calabarzon Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria expressed his optimism on the program saying that it is not only a recognition program but a movement that empowers grassroots approach to take full ownership of their rivers and play a vital role in rehabilitating our natural resources.
All local government units within the province of Cavite whose rivers/waterbodies drain into Manila Bay are qualified to join the program.
Entries will be assessed using a set of criteria developed by EMB together with 17 board of judges from different government, academe, private sector and other stakeholders. | via CH, AM/PIA-4A
